Thousands of people have been sent to prison and lost their children due to diagnoses of Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS). Under the SBS hypothesis, doctors infer abuse from a particular set of medical findings that were once believed to require great trauma.

Today, we know these findings are seen in an array of situations including accidental falls, natural disease processes, and birth. Independent scientific reviews establish that the SBS diagnosis has never been supported by reliable evidence, yet for over 40 years it has been the basis of untold numbers of convictions.

Despite this, there has been no systematic attempt to correct wrongful convictions based on this faulty forensic science.
